Vélizy-Villacoublay's famous aviators / Marcel Doret
Marcel Doret, "King of aerobatics"
Louis Marcel Germain Doret, known as Marcel Doret, was born on May 13, 1896 in Paris and died on August 31, 1955 in Vernet.
In addition to his job as test pilot with Dewoitine, he was a great aerobatics enthusiast: his displays with the Dewoitine D 27 and his world aerobatics championship title contributed just as much to his international fame as his various world records. No air show was complete without him being on the bill.
In Berlin in 1927, he defeated the German, Fieseler, during a two-man aerobatics contest which included a change of aircraft. He renewed this exploit in Vincennes in April, 1935.
On April 29, 1934, he competed against Michel Detroyat in an aerobatics contest at Vélizy-Villacoublay.
After the war, he served in the French Air Force abroad, notably in Miami in 1950 with the "Cyclone" Fouga and in 1951 in Mexico with the "Sylphe" Fouga.
A specialist in aerobatics, raid pilot, airline pilot, glider and fighter pilot, Marcel Doret died from cancer in 1955, having clocked up over 6,000 flight hours.
